2019 Canadian F1 Grand Prix, Part III: The Cars

Wow! Never have I seen such varied and high-end display of automobiles. When the race comes to town people love to show off their wares. Most of the high-end cars all had local license plates.

I took 70 photos of ultra rare and fast cars during the F1 weekend. Here are 10 of my favorites:

This will do! My cousin Nick got his grubby paws on a 2019 Mercedes-Benx GT-R. It is your basic 4.0 litre, twin-turbo V8, 577 horsepower, sub 4-second 0-60, 319 kph, $157.000 grocery getter. 

The pictures do not do the stunning color justice. You have to see it with your own eyes.

Bonus! Cousin Nick scored free tickets to The Petersen Museum. Every car enthusiast has to visit this temple of classic and rare automobiles. In 2015, I took the Vault Tour. They take you downstairs in an elevator to the basement. This tour contains the rarest of the rare, automobiles formerly owned by celebrities, cars from movies and television, and from every period of car manufacturing. The only stipulation of the tours is you cannot take any photos. They don't want thieves getting the layout of the security system.

Due to the Coronavirus, The Petersen Museum is currently closed. However, they posted a video of the Vault Tour. You can view the tour here.

One of the rarest and most coveted in automobile history, a 1963 Ferrari GTO. Want one? The last three that sold at auction commanded prices of, $45.000.000, $52.000.000, and $70.000.000.

The Audrain Automobile Museum

Newport, Rhode Island is most famous for the majestic mansions that grace Bellevue Avenue. The Tennis Hall of Fame is also on Bellevue and in between them is the Audrain Automobile Museum.

I liked this auto collection as it was all in one big room and the collection rotates every three months.

A stunning 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa. If one ever comes to auction and you are in the mood to purchase one, get ready to spend around $3.000.000. This was easily my favorite car in the collection.

The Bugatti Veyron, at one time the car with the highest top speed in the world. 

The ultra rare and fast, Saleen S7. It has a Ford 7.0 liter (427 cubic inch) V8 and a 6-speed manual transmission. 

One of famous cars ever manufactured, the Duesenberg. Production lasted from 1921 - 1937 and was extremely expensive for its time. Prices started at $13.000 and could exceed $25.000. This car unattainable for most of the populace as the average salary in 1925 was less than $1.300.  

You literally had to be a movie star such as Gary Cooper to afford one. His Model J sold for $22.000.000!

I did not know this saying originated from the car itself!
